Additional Needs Head Of Faculty - Z Mccall Email - email@example.com
Our vision is to provide students with special educational needs and disabilities the best opportunity to grow and develop into independent learners, irrespective of their background, culture, ethnic origin, religion or any other status. We adopt a child-centered approach with Quality First Teaching being at the heart of our SEND provision. We aim to provide a safe, nurturing environment, from which all students can succeed. Students are empowered to achieve their full potential through a highly differentiated curriculum, creative technologies and opportunities to encounter new experiences.
Identifying Special Education Needs and Disabilities
‘A student has special educational needs where their learning difficulty or disability calls for special educational provision, namely provision different from or additional to that normally available to students of the same age.’ (SEN Code of practice Jan 2015) Special Educational Needs and Disability provision can be considered as falling under four broad areas:
Communication and Interaction – Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Cognition and Learning – Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and Specific Learning Difficulties (SPLD) including but not limited to dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalculia.
Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) including but not limited to self-harm, depression, ADHD and attachment disorder.
Sensory and/or Physical – Visual Impairment (VI), Hearing Impairment (HI), Multi Sensory Impairment (MSI) and Physical difficulties (PD).
The Sanctuary is the SEND base within Essa Academy. In the Sanctuary students are provided with a safe learning environment from which they can be supported by the dedicated and specialised SEND team. The aim of the SEND team is to support students with specific needs to enable them to access the mainstream curriculum. Possible ways in which our SEND team may support your child are:
1:1 withdrawal or small group withdrawal, for literacy, numeracy, socials skills, and speech & language development
Year 11 study support
Drawing and Talking therapy
Face it nurture programme
Outside agency assessments, or a specific intervention programme led by a specialist SEND teacher
