A KIND-HEARTED woman has kept a promise she made to a terminally ill friend.

Carol Lord vowed to shave her head to support a neighbour, who was battling cancer, but sadly, the 57-year-old died before the Student Welfare Officer and comedy compere could complete the mission.

Carol was determined to honour her pledge and set about planning a charity evening in aid of Bolton Hospice.

The night took place on July 16 2011, at ‘The Last Drop Village’ and she raised more than £2,800.

She had her hair shaved by The Bridge Hair Studio in Astley Bridge, and dyed it blonde.

The mum-of-one, who works at Essa Academy, said: “I am chuffed to bits with the fundraising and quite like the look, I might even keep it.” Staff and students at Essa Academy also kindly sponsored me and their support from everybody was over whelming.

I can’t thank them enough.

Aanika Dhillon, community fundraiser, said:
“Shaving off all your hair certainly takes some courage, luckily Carol has that in abundance and we are so pleased that she was able to fulfill her promise and raise such a terrific sum for Bolton Hospice too.” 

We had our first Primary Year 5/6 football competition on Tuesday 22nd November 2011 on our brand new
3G surface. It was a fantastic success and had 8 local primary schools in it. St Bedes went onto win in the final against Clarendon. The other schools were:-
Bishop Bridgman, Pikes Lane, Heathfield, Lever edge,
St Michaels & Sunning Hill.

What made the night so special & successful was the Sports Leaders who ran the competition from start to finish and did a fabulous job receiving considerable praise from primary staff and parents.

Thanks to all our PE staff and anyone who helped on the day.
