Physical Education
The Physical Education Department at Essa Academy is a very forward thinking and innovative department that offers all students a wide range of opportunities for sporting achievement and academic attainment.
Students attend PE for three hours a week at Essa. During this time students experience a broad range of activities from team invasion games, striking and fielding games and net/wall games as well as problem solving activities, Fitness, judo and dance. Every child at Essa will leave with a qualification in Btec sport, and may opt to follow GCSE PE (full and short course).
Facilities
Essa Academy’s extensive facilities include a state of the art sportshall, 3G astroturf, Three netball courts, Four tennis courts, playing fields accommodating a football pitch, rounders pitch and athletics track and a dance studio.
Technology
Essa Academy’s sportshall hall is equipped with two large screens and projectors that enable students to observe and analyse various sports performances. Additionally, students have access to thirty PE dedicated ipad2’s that they can use to video each other’s performances in a range of sports. Students can watch these performances through Apple Airplay.
Extra curricular
Essa Academy offers a wide variety of PE extra curricular clubs during lunch time and after school, including football and netball team practices, basketball, cricket, athletics and rounders as well as activities that are new to students, such as judo and fitness boot camps.
