A smart appearance reflects the right attitude to learning
Within and beyond the academy
General appearance can be as important as the uniform itself. The following guidelines are applicable:
Extreme hairstyles or colouring are not permitted. This includes shaved heads, tramlines, and beaded hair. Any necessary hair adornments should be black. Long hair should be tied back for health and safety reasons during key activities. Accepted appropriate religious head coverings may be worn; these must be plain black.
Parents of Muslim boys returning from Hajj/Umrah must inform the Academy if their sons have shaved hair in accordance with the religious practice. Muslim boys are permitted to keep a beard for religious reasons, when requested in writing by parents. The wearing of any other religious symbols must be discussed with the Year Learning and Welfare Leader on admission and with agreement may be worn discreetly. Jewellery, including rings, is not permitted. Girls may wear one pair of small plain ear studs if they have pierced ears. Make up and nail varnish etc are not permitted.
