Humanities Faculty

Mr J. Daniel

We want our students to be valuable citizens of society, community and country.

Curriculum Intent for History:

History is the study of OUR story. The young people of ESSA academy should leave with a greater understanding of who they are, where they come from, where they live and why it looks the way it does. It is essential that this subject helps them understand the importance of their community and their place within it.

The discipline of History teaches the students how to scrutinise sources of information, write convincing arguments, and structure prose in a logical and understandable way. History is an essential building block which students need to be functional and participatory citizens of Britain and the modern world.

We built the curriculum with the intent that students will be:

·Able to understand why current events and their own lives are not isolated.

·Able to understand how the world works by making historical and conceptual connections across time.

·Ambitious in what they achieve and informed to make the appropriate life choices.

·Confident in articulating their own ideas.

·Aware of their history, their culture, and their community.

·Able to value what they are capable of and applying their knowledge to other subjects and the wider world.
