Teacher of Humanities (Geography)
 

We are seeking a Teacher of Geography to join the Humanities Faculty at Essa Academy. The faculty consists of ten teachers at varying stages of their teaching careers. As a team of committed and forward thinking practitioners, we are dedicated to creating a love for learning amongst our students. We aim to provide a curriculum that allows our young people to leave Essa Academy as well rounded individuals with an understanding of where studying the subjects we are passionate about can take them.

 

Geography is taught discreetly at KS3 and students make option choices in Humanities at the end of Year 9. We currently deliver the AQA specification at GCSE, focusing on Coastal and River landscapes in the UK, Hot Deserts and Energy where we are permitted to select optional topics. We also deliver a number of additional qualifications which draw strong links with our department, for example, the Archbishop of York Young Leaders Award, the Duke of Edinburgh Award and the army cadet force.

Planning is shared which allows us to deliver an enriching and engaging curriculum with resources to support a range of abilities and learners. The school offers all teaching staff 20% PPA which allows our team to help move our faculty forwards at a rapid pace, whilst maintaining a very important work-life balance. High quality CPD is delivered on a weekly basis by our skilled and supportive teaching and learning team.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, passionate and inspirational teacher of Geography, with a real passion for teaching and learning. A commitment to achieving excellent results for students through holding high expectations of themselves and others is essential. We are looking for a teacher who is a real team player, and someone who can contribute to helping to shape the future of our faculty.

Teaching Assistant Level 1

We require an enthusiastic, creative and dedicated Teaching Assistant Level 1 to join our team and support the progress of the children's learning across all areas of the curriculum.

The successful candidate will be a strong team player, able to engage effectively with children and staff, to support, nurture and track student development both educationally and personally.

The successful candidate will also have:

  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills

  • Able to support students with a range of complex needs

  • Be flexible and easily adaptable to change

  • Behaviour management awareness and able to suggest strategies

  • Think outside the box

  • Exposure to supporting children experiencing special educational needs and a passion to teach and watch children progress their learning and self esteem

  • A level of understanding of EAL needs

  • Competent level of IT skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office package

  • Be willing to participate in a range of CPD offered

 

This role is offered on a full-time basis, working 37 hours per week on a term time plus 2 days basis. The salary is paid at Grade C, Scale Point 4 (in the range 4-6) £18,933 per annum FTE (£15,823 per annum actual)

The role is fixed term for 1 year in the first instance

Teacher of Science

Essa Academy’s Science faculty are seeking to recruit a dynamic, talented individual who believes that all students can succeed.

The successful candidate will be joining a unique, supportive, happy Science faculty and will work alongside dedicated, forward thinking practitioners. The successful candidate will be a passionate and inspirational teacher with a real desire to build resilience in their students and improve teaching and learning. Upholding our high standards and a commitment to achieving excellent results for our students is essential. To allow teachers to do this effectively, we offer 20% PPA. We appreciate the importance of setting time aside to joint plan with colleagues.

Students at Essa Academy achieve well in and enjoy Science. The faculty promotes excellence in Science, ensuring every student reaches their full potential in a stimulating, exciting and well-resourced environment. High standards of teaching enthuses students, encourages a positive attitude to learning and develops independence thought. With a hardworking and dedicated staff we aim to develop pupils’ enthusiasm for learning, encourage a positive attitude towards Science and new technology, and foster a critical appreciation of the contribution that Science makes to society. 

The Science faculty consists of an inventive and vibrant team, dedicated to raising achievement with an outstanding Science education. Meeting the high demands of the Science curriculum, we pride ourselves on building collaborative relationships. We currently follow the AQA exam board for both Combined and Separate Sciences.

Essa Academy allows students to access remote education from home through Essa Live and Microsoft Teams. The Science team have developed a strong blended learning strategy to incorporate live remote teaching, Essa Live and shared online resources when students are not able to access their learning in the classroom. All remote lessons at Essa include a three parts. Learning begins with a live teacher led introduction, followed by independent student learning and ending with a teacher led plenary. Successes in Science have included the use of visualisers and graphics tablets, as well as performing live and recorded practical experiments to aid teaching and learning. We are continually exploring new strategies to make remote education as effective as possible.

In January 2021 the Science faculty expanded. All students now have their science lessons in one of nine fully functioning laboratories each with water and gas.

This is a superb opportunity for the right candidate to join our successful Science department. This role will be paid at Main Scale.
